Why I Am Not Afraid of A.I.

You love storytelling and writing. That's why we found each other - you and Written Out Loud.

As the founder of this program, and CEO of the company, I think and care deeply about writing, storytelling, and meaningful human connection. So it will come as no surprise that many of you have reached out to me with your concerns, and yes, even your fears, about ChaptGPT, A.I., and the many Large Language Models that seem - at times - to be threatening to sabotage or even steal the precious realm of human creativity.

Friend, I am not afraid of A.I. Period. And the reason why I'm not afraid is, perhaps not surprisingly, a story.

I've recorded a short podcast telling this story, which I've linked to here. I recorded it as a podcast because I believe this subject is a nuanced and complex one, filled with contradictions, falsehoods, and opportunities. Much like a story.

I hope you enjoy this podcast. And if you'd like, I'd love to hear your thoughts about this critical nexus of creativity and technology. My instinct says we'll be navigating this mysterious forest together for many years to come. I'm glad to have you as a companion.

The future - including all of A.I. - belongs to the storytellers.

Writers write words. Storytellers right the world.

Best,

Joshua Shelov
